Our portion of the Main Salmon River runs through the Frank Church Wilderness area and is absolutely ideal habitat for Chukar Partridge. The combination of a road less river corridor and very little hunting pressure creates great hunting opportunities. The fall Chukar season brings cool daytime air temperatures and cool water temperatures. This is also an ideal time to fish for trout including Steelhead. This trip format is ideal for the hunting and fishing outdoor enthusiast. The trips are limited to 12 guests which ensure that there is plenty of room to fish while floating and to shoot when Chukar are spotted.
These 5 day trips are designed to optimize time spent on the river fishing and hunting. A typical day starts with breakfast at 7:30 am and a beach departure at 9 am. We float and fish as we keep our eyes open for Chukar. The river during fall is between 50 and 55 degrees which is excellent for trout fishing. When the birds are spotted we pull over and take aim. Hunting Chukar on the Main Salmon is much different than hunting Chukar in most other areas. We do not spend a whole lot of time running up into the hills. Instead we float along quietly and wait until we come upon them. Sometime during the middle of the day the boats regroup for a river lunch. The afternoon is spent fishing and hunting. We typically pull into camp at about 4:30 to 5:30. We have dinner and drinks and then sit by the fire the rest of the evening. Your hunting dog is welcome. Please arrange to have a Dog Floatation device for your fuzzy friend.
Adventures Wild provides all of the Boating equipment, camping equipment, and food for these trips. You will need to bring your own shot gun and fishing equipment. Spin rod setups with large flashy spoons work best. Steelhead set up are welcome but this trip focuses on Chukar hunting and float fishing. All fishing and hunting licenses are your responsibility and must be obtained prior to your launch date. Adventures Wild strictly conforms to Idaho Fish and Game Regulations and expects all of our guest to do the same.
