Matthew Lutz, Owner & Lead

Experience: 13 years
of river guiding, 12 in Idaho and 1 in Alaska; 8 years of helicopter ski guiding
in the US and Canada; 2 seasons of mountaineering guiding in the Nepal
Himalaya.
Education: B.S. Geography from the University of Utah
1993, Licensed Lead Guide in Idaho for the Main Salmon and Middle Fork of the
Salmon, Certified Lead Guide with the Canadian Ski Guide Association, Nationally Certified EMT-Paramedic.
"My favorite part of guiding is interacting with
people. Peoples' faces just light up when they feel that they are learning and
achieving things that they did not realize that they were capable of. Providing
a safe and positive environment for folks to experience the wilderness is
always rewarding."
Kendall Lutz, Owner
& Guide Experience: 6 years of River Guiding, 4 years in
Idaho, 1 year in Wyoming, and 1 year in Alaska; 5 years Massage Therapist,
Nationally Certified member of that AMTA
Education: B.S.
Anthropology from the University of Utah, Emergency Medical Training 1994-1998
"A rive trip is the ultimate getaway vacation. There are no modern day
conveniences to distract from the pristine clean living on the river. It has
been so nice to see people who have high stress in their lives truly relax. It
is the best to see someone who has never slept outside have their life changed
by the experience of the river."
Wes Broom,
Guide
Experience: Wes is a 42
yrs old Licensed Lead Boatman on the Main Salmon, The Lower Main Salmon, and
Hells Canyon of the Snake. Wes has been guiding since 1997 and has also worked
on the Gila River (Class II), the Salt River (Class III- IV), and the Rio
Grande (Class II) out side of Big Bend National Park.
Why I choose to
be a guide: "There is something special about being on a river trip. The
wilderness is very much like a living classroom and a theme park rolled into
one (a real E ticket ride!). From a calm morning float, to the challenge of the
whitewater, folks can come to understand themselves and the miracle of America.
And that is why I guide. Just remember you can not spell NATURE with out U.
Peace and Love Wes."
Eric Mathieu,
Guide
Experience: Licensed
River Guide on the Main Salmon
"Rafting is one of the most exciting and
invigorating activities Ive ever done! The experience of navigating the
river with the changing face of the currents, the flux of the landscape and the
incredible natural surroundings of this region is unforgettable."
"I
enjoy taking people down the river and sharing in their delight at encountering
the river, whether as a passenger in a big raft, out on a paddleboat, canoe or
going it solo in a kayak. Its great fun to introduce people to the Salmon
River nature, fun-filled days, gourmet camping cuisine and evenings of campfire
activities."
"The rest of the year, while waiting for the season to
start up again, I live and work in Paris, France. A research assistant for 10
years with the National Institute of Health and Medical Research, my hobbies
include mountain biking, hiking, fishing, motorcycles and 4x4 racing."
Carl Peake, Guide

River, 10 Years on the June Mountain Professional Ski Patrol, Certified

When Carl is not River
Guiding in Idaho or skiing in the Sierra he is usually found in mountains of
the world fishing and exploring. Carl enjoys the ocean, traveling, and meeting
new people.

Association basic First Aid Course and CPR BS chemistry/materials science

I would describe life on the Main Salmon as
good, clean, sustainable living. Many hobbies and vacations can leave one
feeling in poor health or tired. This does not hold true for time spent on the
river. The river has incredible regenerative healing powers for both mind and
soul. I enjoy the camaraderie that grows so quickly in one week, and a whole
season. To meet people from all over the world and accomplish memorable
challenges with them is truly great. The river affects everyone that is near;
it is a great teacher, calm soothing friend, and a belligerent force all at the
same time.
